Rachel Inglis
was brought up in Edinburgh and, until recently, lived and worked in London for well over 20 years. In the 1980's, Rachel was involved in the Christian Vineyard movement in London and joined ministry teams to both Germany and South Africa. She is currently completing her training in Ignatian Spiritual Direction in Edinburgh. She moved to Kirkcudbright for the purpose of offering Quiet Days. Rachel sees many similarities between the Vineyard and Ignatian spiritualities.
Edith Thorp
was brought up in Scotland, spent 25 years in the South East of England and then moved to Dalbeattie in 1995. Trained as a Pastoral Assistant in the Guildford Diocese, Edith worked through the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in the early 1990's. In 2000-2002 she trained to be a Spiritual Director at the Ignatian Centre, Glasgow, and since then has been part of a team that has hosted Weeks of Guided Prayer in Galloway. Edith is currently Convenor of the Spirituality Group of the Scottish Episcopal Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway.
Sarah Howarth
retired with her husband to Galloway twelve years ago from parish ministry in London and Harlow. She trained as a counsellor and then in Spiritual Direction with the Diocese of Chelmsford and has been for many years a tutor with Acorn Christian Listeners. She has always had a love for working across denominations and enjoys such a network locally. Sarah has had many years of exposure to Ignatian spirituality.
We can also offer, by arrangement:
- Individual spiritual accompaniment. Spiritual Accompaniment (or Direction) is the practice of being with people as they reflect on their spiritual journey. The director listens and asks questions to assist the directee in their process of reflection.
- Weeks of guided prayer, or Retreat in Daily Life, within faith communities. We intend to build up a network of experienced Spiritual Accompaniers in the Stewartry, on whose involvement as prayer guides we can draw as appropriate.
- Accompaniment through the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. The Ignatian Spiritual Exercises are a series of meditations and contemplations on the nature of the world and on our relationship with God through Jesus. They encourage us to enter the Scriptures with the help of our imaginations and to get to know Jesus as a friend. They are offered as a 30-day retreat or, increasingly, as a retreat in daily life, with weekly or fortnightly meetings between director and retreatant, and usually taking just under a year to complete.
